Sadie Sink has opened up about Studios’ intense secrecy while filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, revealing that she didn’t receive the movie’s script until she was on a flight to London. Although the actress already knew the broad details of her role, reading the screenplay just before production began left her both surprised and slightly nervous.

The Stranger Things star shared that director walked her through her character long before filming started, allowing her to join the project with confidence despite never auditioning. Even so, Marvel kept the complete script under wraps until the last possible moment, continuing the studio’s long-standing tradition of guarding major story details.

Speaking to ComicBook ahead of the film’s release, Sink recalled that Cretton was upfront about her character from the beginning, even if the screenplay itself remained off limits.

“He was very transparent with me,” she said. “He kind of told me everything. So I had a good idea of what I’d be doing in this film, but I still didn’t get a script until I was, like, on my way to London, which was wild.”

The actress admitted it was “a little bit” nerve-racking to begin filming without having read the script sooner, adding that she was simply eager to see the finished story. Despite that, she said she trusted Cretton and the creative team because of their previous collaboration on 2017’s The Glass Castle.

Marvel has yet to reveal who Sink is playing in : Brand New Day, making her one of the film’s biggest mysteries. While fan theories continue to circulate online, the actress has remained careful not to reveal any details about her character.

Fortunately, keeping major secrets wasn’t unfamiliar territory. Sink spent nearly a decade working on Netflix’s Stranger Things, where avoiding spoilers became part of every press tour.

“All of it (helped),” Sink added. “I feel like for Season 5, the big question was like, ‘Are you alive? Where are you? Are you going to be in it this season?’ And I couldn’t say anything about that. So, that press run was good prep for something like this, where I literally can’t even say what I’m playing.”

She also revealed that she didn’t even turn to her Stranger Things co-stars David Harbour and Joseph Quinn, both of whom are now part of the , for advice after landing the role.

“I did not. I probably should have. I think I’ve talked a little bit with David about it, and he loves the Marvel family,” she said.

When asked whether she’d like to return as her still-unannounced character in future Marvel projects, Sink laughed before giving a brief response.

“We’ll have to see, I guess,” Sink replied.

For now, Marvel Studios continues to keep Sink’s character a closely guarded secret, with director Destin Daniel Cretton previously saying there’s a “very real reason” for withholding her identity. Audiences will finally learn who she’s playing when arrives in theaters on July 31.
