Sadie Sink got as far as her own name before Marvel decided fans still hadn’t earned the truth.
For close to a year, Sink’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been one of the most fiercely guarded secrets Marvel has run in recent memory. Trailers dropped, interviews happened, set photos leaked out, and still nobody could nail down exactly who she’s playing.
Theories have ranged from Jean Grey to Firestar to Gwen Stacy, with her natural red hair doing most of the work, fueling the guesswork.
Sadie Sink’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day Character Gets Cut Off Mid-Sentence
The official Spider-Man Movie account on X posted a new clip promising the wait was finally over. Sink leans toward the camera and says, “Hi, my name is Sadie Sink, and I play…” and that’s exactly where it ends. A spider web graphic slams down over her mouth right on cue, and the audio cuts out with it. No name, no character, nothing.

It’s about as clean a troll job as Sony has run during this entire campaign, timed to cut her off at the precise syllable that would have ended the guessing game. Fans immediately zeroed back in on the gray sweater she’s wearing in the clip, too, the same detail that’s been driving Jean Grey theories for months.
Sink doesn’t leave the video empty handed, though. She tells the camera she’s excited and that it feels good to finally say that out loud, even if the “that” never actually made it past the censor.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton has leaned into the secrecy rather than downplaying it, previously saying there’s a real reason the studio has kept Sink’s identity hidden and that audiences will understand once they see the film. He’s also teased that her casting isn’t even the biggest surprise waiting in Brand New Day.
The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo alongside Sink, with Cretton directing. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters July 31, so whatever got beeped out of that clip will be public knowledge in a matter of days.
