Recap: What Happened in Bleach: TYBW Episode 7

Episode 7, titled “The End 2”, closed out Uryu’s fight against Jugram and shifted focus to a desperate last stand at the Wahrwelt.

Uryu teamed up with Shunsui, Nanao, Nel, Harribel, Pesche, and Dondochakka in an attempt to destroy the Seed of Destruction before Yhwach could use it to wipe out both worlds. For a moment, it looked like Uryu’s arrow had actually landed a real hit on the Quincy King.

That moment didn’t last. Yhwach rose out of the wreckage having absorbed every Schrift available to him, reclaiming his full Quincy powers while Ichigo watched on completely unable to intervene. It’s the kind of gut-punch the final cour has leaned on repeatedly, stripping away every apparent victory before the heroes can catch their breath.

Episode 8 now carries the weight of answering what an even more empowered Yhwach looks like, and whether Ichigo has anything left to counter him with. With the finale reportedly targeted for September 26 if the weekly schedule holds, every remaining Saturday is starting to feel like it could be the one that breaks the story wide open.
