casting rumors have kept Hollywood guessing for years, but the race to find the next 007 might already be over behind closed doors. Rather than leaving the vacancy up in the air, Oscar winner Gary Oldman has hinted that producers have quietly made their final choice and he has his fingers firmly crossed for his Slow Horses co-star .

Did Gary Oldman Just Confirm Jack Lowden as Next James Bond?

Speaking with Canada’s Global, Oldman was asked about the latest Bond casting rumors and suggested the studio’s decision has already been made.

“It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

The comment has immediately put Lowden back at the center of the Bond conversation, although Oldman did not explicitly say that the actor has been cast as 007. His wording could also mean Amazon MGM Studios and its producers have simply selected their preferred candidate.

Lowden, 36, currently stars alongside Oldman in Slow Horses as River Cartwright, a capable but frequently unlucky MI5 agent. His work on the Apple TV+ series, along with roles in Dunkirk and Mary Queen of Scots, has made him a regular name among Bond contenders.

The wider search has been tightly controlled. Deadline previously reported that auditions were taking place in August, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman and director involved in the process. Harris Dickinson, and were among the actors reported to fit the studio’s vision for the character.

Lowden has also received support from author and producer Richard Osman, who said on The Rest Is Entertainment that the actor is being “strongly considered” for the role.

Amazon MGM Studios has not confirmed the next Bond, leaving Oldman’s comments open to interpretation. If he is referring to Lowden specifically, however, the announcement could be closer than fans realize.
