Tobey Maguire broke the multiverse wide open when he suited back up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but whether his Peter Parker is returning for Avengers: Doomsday remains Marvel‘s most guarded secret.
Even after Marvel Studios laid out the bulk of the cast during its massive March 2025 chair-reveal livestream, Maguire’s name was conspicuously absent. Yet with Tom Holland also missing from the initial rollout, radio silence has only fueled theories that the original web-slinger isn’t finished quite yet.
Is Tobey Maguire Officially Confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday?
Officially, Maguire is not part of the announced Doomsday roster, which runs to roughly thirty names spanning the current MCU, the Russo-era Avengers, and the returning X-Men cast. Kevin Feige has confirmed more casting news was still to come after that initial reveal.
Insider Daniel Richtman has repeatedly claimed Maguire is in the film, reporting that he shot his sequence in motion capture because a new suit wasn’t finished in time, and is “expected to wear it either in reshoots or in ‘Secret Wars.'”
A separate report from an X account, @MyTimeToShineHello, claims the film opens with Maguire’s Spider-Man squaring off against Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Deadpool, stating “Wolverine and Deadpool are the ones sent to Tobey’s Earth to destroy it and fight Tobey.”
None of that is studio-confirmed, and Andrew Garfield has publicly denied any Spider-Man return. Asked directly on GQ’s video series if he or Maguire would appear in Doomsday, Garfield answered, “No, unequivocally fucking no.”
Garfield has misled press about his own Spider-Man comeback before. He spent all of 2021 denying he’d appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home before showing up opposite Maguire and Tom Holland in a film that grossed $1.9 billion worldwide, so his denial carries less weight than it might for another actor.
Marvel pulled off that same concealment once already, and there’s no requirement it announces a Maguire return before opening day this time either.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
