Mutiny hits theaters on August 21, and the marketing has leaned hard into mystery, teasing a billionaire’s assassination and an international conspiracy without giving away too much of Reed’s personal history. That has left fans piecing together his backstory from trailers, character descriptions, and the handful of details Lionsgate has confirmed so far.
From Scotland Yard to Private Security
According to the film’s official synopsis, Cole Reed spent time in the Special Forces before serving as a London Metropolitan police officer. That combination of military and law enforcement training explains why he can hold his own against armed mercenaries on a ship in the middle of the ocean.
By the time the story begins, Reed has moved into private security work, protecting a wealthy Thai industrialist.
When his boss is murdered right in front of him, Reed becomes the prime suspect instead of the witness, and the people actually responsible for the killing are the ones hunting him down. That setup pushes him from bodyguard to fugitive almost instantly, and it is the engine for everything that follows once he boards the cargo ship at the center of the film.
What Sets Cole Reed Apart From Statham’s Other Roles
