The two men reportedly tried to build a company together at some point before the events of the show, and Taylor’s return forces Will to reckon with whether that door is still open.
Magnussen kept most of the specifics close to the vest ahead of the premiere. Speaking on the Scene Stealers podcast, he explained the core of the storyline without giving too much away. We were trying to build a company together and it’s whether or not he wants to leave, Magnussen said. I don’t want to give too much away.
That framing puts Taylor in a different lane than most of the show’s chaos agents. He is not just comic relief dropped into the garage. He represents an actual fork in the road for Will, someone who can tempt him away from Valley Forge with the promise of the ambitious, better-funded life he might have chosen instead.
Why Taylor Matters to Will’s Arc
Season 3 has already been billed as a turning point for Will, who spends the new episodes wrestling with his own shortcomings and wondering if he settled for less than he deserved. Taylor’s arrival is the mechanism that forces that question into the open.
If Taylor represents the path not taken, every scene between them becomes a referendum on whether Will made the right call by staying loyal to his family’s shop.
Magnussen also spoke warmly about working alongside co-creator Steve Gerben throughout filming, saying he worked with Steve the whole time and loves that guy. That kind of on-set chemistry tends to translate well when a storyline hinges on a long, complicated friendship, and it suggests Taylor and Will’s dynamic carries real weight rather than functioning as a one-episode gimmick.
Taylor arrives alongside a wave of new Tires faces this season, including Taylor Misiak as Shane’s ex-girlfriend Jill and Jamie-Lynn Sigler in a still-unrevealed role.
But of all the new additions, Taylor is the one most directly tied to the show’s emotional core, Will’s ongoing struggle to figure out what he actually wants out of his life.
