Meghan Markle‘s first public outing in the UK reportedly didn’t go smoothly, with claims that staff at an Oxfordshire pub refused to serve the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan Markle Reportedly Refused Service at The Three Horseshoes
The incident reportedly took place on September 21 at The Three Horseshoes in Asthall, near Burford, marking the 45-year-old’s first photographed public appearance on British soil since relocating from California with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, late last month.
Meghan stepped out alongside former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, sporting a relaxed outfit of a light blue shirt and white jeans. However, despite appearing in high spirits, the visit was marred by backstage resistance from local employees.
According to reporting from Gloucestershire Live, Meghan had a difficult time ordering drinks, with certain members of the watering hole’s team actively declining to attend to the former working royal.
“Meghan recently made her first photographed public appearance since returning to British soil, spotted chatting and laughing at The Three Horseshoes pub in Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire,” the outlet reported. “Certain members of staff at The Three Horseshoes have reportedly ‘refused to serve’ [Meghan].”
While the exact reasoning behind the staff’s alleged defiance was not detailed, the icy reception highlights the deep-seated public polarization that continues to follow the Sussexes since setting up residence in the Cotswolds.
It comes amid a tumultuous few weeks for the relocated family, who have already weathered a school change over security commute issues, a leaked phone number in a parents’ group chat, and an ongoing high-stakes Home Office review over state-funded police protection.
And if the reports are true, the couple has even threatened to return to U.S. if their security isn’t granted.
