Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s fresh start in Britain might already be running on borrowed time.

The Sussexes touched down in the UK with Archie and Lilibet less than a month ago, ending years away in Montecito. But according to a friend of Harry’s, that homecoming could unravel fast if one specific decision doesn’t go his way and insiders are pointing to as early as the October half-term as the moment everything could fall apart.

Prince Harry’s Ravec Security Decision Could Force Family Back to Montecito

The whole thing hinges on RAVEC, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, which is currently running separate security assessments for both Harry and Meghan now that they’re full-time UK residents rather than occasional visitors. It’s actually the first time Meghan has gone through this kind of review since 2020, and the committee has reportedly asked the couple to hand over details of their daily routines, school runs included, so it can properly weigh the risk.

And according to Daily Mail, sources close to the couple say Harry and Meghan could move back to California if the RAVEC security review doesn’t go their way.

“If he doesn’t get [security] then I believe he will go back to Montecito for good, and that could be as soon as half-term,” one of Harry’s friends said.

The stakes are being framed as high because, in the friend’s telling, there’s no ambiguity left in the case for restoring Harry’s protection.

“The view is that if they don’t get security then it will have to mean that Ravec has been nobbled,” the friend said. “The need is so clear, what else could be the explanation?”

That same source went on to add that Harry would take rejection “as a sign that there are deeper elements at play. In that case then he will be safer in the US than in the UK, so he will return.”

The couple’s return hasn’t exactly been smooth so far. Archie and Lilibet were switched out of their first UK school just days into term, reportedly over security concerns, a sign of just how central this Ravec decision has become to whether the family’s UK chapter lasts beyond a few months.
