While previous installments of Season 4 of Amazon Prime Video hit show Invincible were the prelude to a storm, Episode 7, “Don’t Do Anything Rash,” definitely turned out to be the supernova. The penultimate episode has left fans in complete shock. There is no denying it—we have been shown more than a mere battle. We saw the obliteration of a world, and we saw the dismantling of the Coalition’s hierarchy.

The Origin of a Tyrant

This episode begins with a terrifying glimpse into the Viltrumite history. Finally, we get to know the legendary Emperor Argall, voiced with royal indifference by Frank Welker. What we see, however, is Argall’s tyrannical rule that includes colonizing other worlds and using resources to extinction.

We see how the Great Purge begins—not with senseless violence, but as Thragg’s response to Thaedus’ treachery and Argall’s assassination. Thragg’s appointment as a Grand Regent was his bloody oath to “cut out the cancer” of weakness. For centuries, the philosophy that defined the Viltrumite Empire has been passed down, and this episode has provided us with invaluable insight into Thragg’s mindset.

The Destruction of and Fall of Viltrumites

However, the highlight of this episode is undoubtedly the desperate attack on the homeworld of Viltrumites. The image of the ring-shaped bodies that surround the planet serves as a grim reminder of what Thragg perceives as “strength.” The fight itself was a brilliant spectacle, and when the battle turned against them, Nolan came up with a plan that bordered on madness.

Mark and Nolan accompany Thaedus through Viltrum’s core, making the path for Space Racer, whose Infinity Ray is used to destabilize the center of the planet. The consequences are catastrophic as Viltrum is completely destroyed and its inhabitants become a nomadic race with nowhere to go. However, as the dust settles, we see that the destruction of their home has done nothing to curb the ambitions of Viltrumites.

Death and Dismemberments Galore

Despite their reputation for extreme violence, Invincible is usually not very graphic when it comes to gore and death. However, in the latest episodes, as we head towards the finale, we witness how the show has taken things too far and pushed viewers’ tolerance for bloodshed past their limits. In the latest episode, we saw the culmination of decades of revenge as Thragg decapitated Thaedus, voiced by Peter Cullen, by ripping his head from his shoulders with his bare hands.

It has finally avenged Emperor Argall, and it was the first strike against the Coalition that killed both its leader and his moral conscience. At the same time, Oliver Grayson goes through his torture as well. Disobeying the orders to retreat, he confronts Thragg. Naturally, his attempt is futile and ends with Thragg tearing off Grayson’s right arm and breaking off his lower jaw. Although the episode ends with Oliver lying in a stasis tank, the image of him in pain makes people question the invincibility of the Grayson bloodline.

Moreover, Thragg displays his superiority by punching a hole through Nolan’s chest and scratching his eyes. Nolan and Mark survived this assault only because of the cold realization Thragg reached, namely that now the number of Viltrumites is so low that every single life counts as a precious commodity.

Episode 7 of Invincible Season 4 is ‘Absolute Cinema’

Right now, social networks are buzzing with people’s opinions on “Don’t Do Anything Rash,” with most people stating that it is the fastest episode ever. Lee Pace deserves to receive the award for best villain work because Thragg is an extraordinary character, a tragic hero of a philosophy he was brainwashed with. Moreover, people are impressed with Nolan’s full circle development as he refuses to return to his former self and refers to Viltrum as a tomb.

Now that Allen the Alien is in control of the Coalition and the Viltrumites have lost their home planet, this war can be classified as an attempt to exterminate all opponents. Having nothing to lose, they decided to take their rage to Earth, and that promises an epic finale. Most likely, it will be even more destructive than the Season 1 fight.

The Season 4 Finale of Invincible drops on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
