Olivia Rodrigo may have revealed the artist behind her next cover. During a new interview with Wonderland Magazine, the singer pointed to Ariana Grande when asked which song she would like to perform in the future, sparking excitement among fans of both pop stars.
Rodrigo did not name a specific track from Grande’s latest album, petal, but said she has been listening to it heavily. That leaves plenty of possibilities for a future live performance, particularly as Rodrigo heads into a busy stretch of her 2026 schedule.
“I’ve been listening to Ariana’s album [petal] a lot, so maybe something from Ariana’s album,” Rodrigo said.
The answer leaves the song itself completely open. Rodrigo did not say whether she already has a particular track in mind, leaving fans to speculate about which petal song could eventually make it into her setlist.

The possibility is especially interesting because Rodrigo and Grande have very different musical identities. Rodrigo often builds her songs around pop-rock influences, emotional vocals, and diary-like lyrics, while Grande’s catalog draws heavily from pop and R&B. Hearing Rodrigo reinterpret one of Grande’s songs could therefore produce a noticeably different version of the original.
Grande’s petal has also become part of Rodrigo’s current listening rotation at an especially busy moment in her own career. Her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, arrived earlier this year, while “serena joy” has given fans a previously unreleased glimpse into the sessions behind that record.

Rodrigo explained that she ultimately left “serena joy” off the album because its political subject matter did not fit the chronological storyline she had created for the project. The song had already attracted fan attention after behind-the-scenes material surfaced in June.
Its standalone release quickly gained momentum, reaching the top five on the global iTunes chart and No. 55 on Spotify’s Daily Global chart within its first two days. A limited physical edition was also released on August 21, with only 500 CDs available through Analog Record Shop in Orange County.
Daisy Chain Fields could give Rodrigo an early opportunity to perform the Grande cover she has now hinted at, although there is no confirmation that she plans to sing a petal song at the festival.
The festival itself will support causes focused on women and girls, with participating artists performing without fees and 100% of net proceeds going toward organizations working on women’s rights, reproductive health, and economic freedom.
