Gracie Abrams is stepping in front of the camera for the first time, and she is not pretending it is easy. The pop star turned actress just admitted her upcoming A24 film has her genuinely shaken.
Abrams is starring in Please, the new project from Babygirl director Halina Reijn, marking her acting debut after years of building a career in music.
The film reunites Reijn with A24 for the third time, following the studio’s Bodies Bodies Bodies and the Nicole Kidman-led Babygirl, which pulled in $64 million worldwide and became one of A24’s biggest global hits. That track record alone puts serious weight on Abrams’ first on-screen performance.

Speaking about the project, Abrams did not hold back on how intimidating the experience has been.
“My next project scares the f out of me and that makes me know I’m in the right place,” she said. “It’s incredibly humbling and it’s feeding my curiosity and I get the opportunity to learn from truly brilliant artists. I will be a sponge.”
That kind of candor tracks with someone stepping way outside their comfort zone. Abrams has spent the last few years dominating the music charts, with her 2024 album The Secret of Us debuting at number one in the UK and number two in the US, plus a sellout headlining tour and a run opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour. Acting is an entirely different beast, and she seems to know it.
Plot details for Please are still under wraps, but the cast has been filling out fast. Tom Burke, David Jonsson, and Connor Storrie have all joined Abrams in the lineup, giving the project a serious ensemble to match Reijn’s growing reputation for bold, boundary-pushing storytelling. Reijn previously teased that the film would dig into themes of violence and masculinity, hinting that Please could carry the same provocative edge as Babygirl.
David Hinojosa is producing for the third time alongside Reijn, who is also producing through her Man Up Film banner, with A24 financing and producing as well. Zach Nutman is on board as executive producer.
For Abrams, calling the role humbling instead of exciting says a lot about how seriously she is taking this leap. Fans have watched her grow from a rising singer-songwriter into a Grammy-nominated headliner, and now they get to see if that same work ethic translates to acting.
