Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have packed up their California life and relocated back to the U.K., but physical proximity has reportedly done nothing to thaw the deep freeze between the Duke of Sussex and Prince William.
Royal Insider Says Prince William Has Shut the Door on Prince Harry
Despite the Sussexes arriving back on British soil, sources confirmed to People that the royal brothers remain completely estranged, with zero direct communication between them.
While King Charles III has taken cautious steps toward healing his bond with his younger son, reuniting with Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet in July and speaking with Harry following their late-August arrival, William is taking a diametrically opposed approach.
“William’s view is clear—any relationship his father has with Harry or the Sussexes as a family is entirely up to him,” royal author Russell Myers claimed. “But looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever.”
And according to Simon Vigar, the Prince and Princess of Wales are treating the ongoing Sussex drama by leaning into the monarchy’s traditional “keep calm and carry on” playbook, viewing the tensions as “a sideshow and ancient history.”
However, the geographic move removes the buffer of an entire ocean, putting intense pressure back on the royal family.
“It’s been magnified,” a palace insider admitted. “When they were in California, and you gazed through the looking glass, you couldn’t see it so well, but it is right back in front of them.”
While William and Kate intend to keep their exclusive focus on their own children and royal duties, experts note that having the Sussexes operating on British soil guarantees lingering scrutiny over whether the heir to the throne can maintain his complete freeze-out indefinitely.
For now, the rift only seems to be worsening, with William reportedly having barred Meghan Markle from using the Prince Diana gala as her relaunch pad, while King Charles has made it clear that the couple are strictly private persons with no royal status.
