Peter Parker visits a grave early in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the headstone does more work than the scene lets on. If you paused on the stone instead of Peter’s face, you will have caught the detail that locks the film into a specific year on the MCU calendar.
The epitaph is the line below, with a birth year of 1964 carved beneath it.
“May Parker – When you help someone, you help everyone.”
The dates on that stone are the real story, confirming that Spider-Man: No Way Home took place in 2024. Add the four-year jump later in the film and you land in 2028.
How The Headstone Confirms 2028 Timeline For Spider-Man

The stone first surfaced in set photos during production, and the 1964 birth year was spotted almost immediately. With May’s death anchored in 2024, that makes her 60 when she died.
The film then does the rest of the work. Peter keeps up with Ned and MJ as they start at MIT, and a quick fast-forward shows they have graduated four years later.
That puts Brand New Day in 2028, the furthest point forward the MCU has reached so far. It is also the last film before Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to land in late 2028 or early 2029 on the in-universe calendar. Marvel has been vague about placement for years, so this is one of the clearest answers the franchise has given.
However, the date also creates a wrinkle. Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in 2027 on the real-world release calendar, yet Brand New Day may sit right before Doomsday in-universe.

Explaining The Blip Math And The Tomei Coincidence

May was one of the people turned to dust in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, and she returned in Avengers: Endgame five years later. Those five years passed for everyone else, but she did not age through them. Count only the years she actually lived and a 1964 birth would make her about 55 when she died in 2024, not 60.
However, the gravestone works differently, because it only records a birth year and a death year. Subtract one from the other and you get 60, which is how The Direct’s Joshua Isaak reads it, calling the stone the canonical in-universe age. The Blip version is the technically biological one, and the film does not say which Marvel intended.
There is also a real-world echo. Marisa Tomei was born on December 4, 1964, the same year carved on May’s stone, and she was 57 when No Way Home arrived in 2021. Marvel has not said whether the match was deliberate.
What the timeline adds beyond continuity is weight. Peter has lived through four years of isolation since the world forgot him, with May gone and MJ and Ned no longer knowing who he is. The headstone marks how long he has carried that loss before the film even begins.
The film has since grown into a record-setter, earning about $2.5 billion worldwide and ranking as the third highest-grossing film ever. It reached digital platforms on October 6, but no subscription streaming date has been confirmed yet.
