From being a mere mystery to becoming one of the most important characters in the final episodes of One Piece, Loki has undergone tremendous growth. Being known as “Accursed Prince” in the Elbaf Kingdom, Loki gained a reputation as a treacherous guy who murdered his father in order to take over the power. Now, thanks to manga’s releases, we can tell a far more complex story about this character. Currently, Loki appears as a vital player in the Elbaf Arc because of his arrest and release as triggers for the ultimate war.
History and Origins
Loki is the son of King Harald and the rightful heir to Elbaf. Having earned the name of a criminal and “Accursed” for murdering his father to get a legendary Devil Fruit, he was considered a simple traitor in the beginning. However, it appeared that Loki had some hidden reasons for his actions related to the deal made by Harald with the Holy Knights of the World Government.
The evidence of Harald’s secret agreement was found in the pentagram at the palace of the king that allowed Holy Knights to visit their territory. Loki’s uprising was motivated by his desire to prevent the government from taking advantage of Elbaf, so he spent six years locked under the Adam Tree until his meeting with Luffy. The Giant warriors kept him away by their immense strength until that moment.
Weapons, Abilities, and Powers
Loki is one of the strongest fighters among the antagonists due to his hefty reward of 2.6 billion berries. With a highly powerful Devil Fruit, Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Nidhöggr, he can change his appearance to become a giant black dragon and shoot black lightning and dark fire, able to destroy an entire battlefield.
In addition, Loki’s weapon, Ragnir, is another advantage because it represents the sentient Devil Fruit. Its special feature consists of shifting its weight and changing its form in order to use various abilities such as lighting and freezing. In addition, Loki possesses Conqueror’s Haki on a high level and can see through any illusions, along with feeling any presence within a great distance.
Sun God and the Conflict in Elbaf
Loki called himself “Sun God,” becoming a dark version of Monkey D. Luffy, whose Devil Fruit Nika grants him the title. At first, Loki seemed to be a threat to the Straw Hats, but now, thanks to his release, they both become opponents of the Holy Knights on Elbaf.
The interaction between Loki and Luffy started when Scopper Gaban, who once belonged to the Roger pirates, provided Luffy with the key that could release the Prince. After a short fight with the captain, Gaban gave the key to Luffy, who used it to free Loki to protect Elbaf from the Holy Knights. As a result, a temporary truce occurred between the enemies because of their common goal to stop the sinister mission of the World Government.
