Yuru and Asa: The “Children Who Sunder Day and Night”
The short answer: Yuru and Asa are the twin siblings in Daemons of the Shadow Realm, a brother and sister born in the small, secluded mountain village known as Higashi. In a prophecy, they are referred to as the “children who sunder day and night” and are destined to command all Daemons in the world.
Yuru is the older twin, a teenager with the ability to command the realm of Night and use bows skillfully. Protective of his sister and distant by nature, Yuru is determined to find and save his sibling no matter the cost.
Asa, the younger twin, represents the realm of Day and possesses the ability to use Break, an attack capable of severing any contract formed between beings. She’s warm toward those she cares about and ruthless toward her enemies.
However, what really adds depth to the relationship between the two twins is the fact that they were separated at a young age and raised in completely different environments. While Yuru remained in the isolated Higashi Village, Asa was taken away by the Kagemori Clan from the Lowlands and raised there.
The Twist That Completely Rewrites the Plot
That is precisely when the series starts getting interesting. When the village where Yuru lives is attacked by armed forces, the protagonist rushes to save Asa, only to discover that she is already dead. Suddenly, a little girl appears, declares herself to be Asa, and reveals that the sibling Yuru has always known was actually a fake.
This twist completely changes how we perceive the story and everything we learned during the first act of the series. It turns out that the person raised alongside Yuru in the village, known as “False Asa,” was actually Kiri with an altered personality and regenerative abilities. Meanwhile, the real Asa had been living in the Lowlands without knowing anything about her twin brother.

But that is not all. The twins in Daemons of the Shadow Realm possess something the rest of the world lacks: the ability to command all Daemons. That makes them valuable targets for various organizations and powerful figures, including the Misasagi Clan, which hunts the siblings for that very reason.
