Black Torch has kept its Saturday morning slot locked in for seven weeks straight, and fans are already counting down to the next drop.
The anime adaptation of Tsuyoshi Takaki’s manga premiered on July 4, and it has not missed a beat since, delivering a new chapter of Jiro Azuma’s ninja-meets-mononoke story every single week. That consistency matters for a show built on serialized fight escalation, since Jiro’s showdown with fellow Bureau of Espionage recruit Reiji has been building week over week.
The series follows Jiro, a shinobi-trained teenager who can talk to animals, after he rescues an injured cat named Rago who turns out to be the legendary Black Star of Doom. That discovery drags Jiro into the Bureau of Espionage, where he now fights off mononoke hunting for Rago’s power while adjusting to a very unwanted new job.
Black Torch Episode 8 Release Date and Time
Episode 8 releases on Saturday, August 22, at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET on Crunchyroll. That puts it at 1 p.m. GMT for viewers checking international time zones, right in line with the same weekly window the show has used since its premiere.
Black Torch is streaming with both English subtitles and an English dub, so there is no waiting around for a delayed dub release the way some simulcasts require. New episodes have consistently gone up on schedule since episode 1, and there is no indication that pattern breaks for episode 8.
Behind the scenes, Kei Umabiki is directing at 100studio, with Yutaka Yamada, known for his work on Tokyo Ghoul, composing the score. The opening theme Freeze Me Up comes from SiM, while I Don’t Like Mondays. handles the ending theme Groooovy.
The source manga ran for five volumes in Shueisha’s Jump Square and Shonen Jump+ between 2016 and 2018, and VIZ Media publishes it in English for anyone who wants to see where the anime is headed.
The season is set to run 12 episodes total, meaning episode 8 pushes the story past its halfway point with four episodes still to come after it.
