Star Wars Eclipse has been stuck in “trust us” mode since its reveal back in 2021, and the last few weeks have not made that any easier. Now, with the studio behind it in genuine turmoil, Quantic Dream has finally said something. Whether it actually settles anything is a different story.

The update comes at a rough moment for the French studio. Quantic Dream recently shut down Spellcasters Chronicles, its multiplayer project, and started laying off staff as part of an internal reorganization. That decision didn’t go quietly. Workers facing the cut went on strike, and instead of the usual “just let us keep our jobs” framing, they made a very specific argument: Star Wars Eclipse needs those people, not fewer hands on deck.

According to striking staff, dozens of employees from the canceled project could be folded into Eclipse without it counting as overstaffing. Their case was that the ambitious High Republic-era game Lucasfilm and Quantic Dream sold fans on in 2021 simply cannot be finished without more support behind it.

Quantic Dream Responds to Star Wars Eclipse Staffing Concerns

Quantic Dream isn’t backing down from its position. In a statement issued to IGN, the studio said development on Eclipse is unaffected by the closure of Spellcasters Chronicles and is continuing as planned, with the full commitment of its team.

“As previously stated, the development of Star Wars Eclipse remains unaffected by the recent closure of Spellcasters Chronicles, a decision driven by the challenging market conditions in that segment,” the statement read.

“The development of Star Wars Eclipse is continuing as planned, with the full commitment of its team and all the necessary resources to complete its mission.

“Our priority is to ensure that employees affected by the restructuring process receive the appropriate support, care, and consideration. Out of respect for this ongoing process and for the employees concerned, we will not provide any further comment at this stage.”

However, that’s the entire statement. No mention of the 115 workers the strikers wanted reassigned, and no acknowledgment of the specific staffing concerns raised on the picket line.

That silence is doing a lot of the talking here. Quantic Dream is choosing corporate language over addressing the actual claim being made against it, which is that the team, as currently staffed, might not be enough to finish the job.

Star Wars Eclipse was first revealed at The Game Awards in December 2021 and hasn’t shown gameplay since. It’s set during the High Republic era, years before the prequel trilogy, and reportedly lets players shape galactic events through branching choices in the Quantic Dream tradition. Five years later, that trailer is still all fans have to go on.

Until Quantic Dream shows actual gameplay, statements like this one will keep landing the same way: reassuring on paper, but doing very little to quiet the noise around the project.
