The eight-year wait for a new Attack on Titan game just ended with a bang. Koei Tecmo and Omega Force finally showed the world what their next entry actually plays like, and it’s bigger than anything the series has attempted before.

Fans have been chasing a full video game adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s saga since the original A.O.T.: Wings of Freedom launched back in 2016. That first title only covered Season 1. The 2018 sequel, Attack on Titan 2, added a bit more but still left the story unfinished. For years, the Rumbling, the Marley arc, and the anime’s climactic final battles had no proper game counterpart at all.

That changes with Attack on Titan 3. During the “Next Scouting Report” broadcast on July 1, Koei Tecmo confirmed the game will finally depict the entire story “from its Survey Corps beginnings to its dramatic conclusion.” The 45-minute presentation showed off refined ODM Gear combat, new encounters with the Nine Titans, and a new Casual Mode built for players who aren’t looking for a hardcore challenge.

The showcase also introduced Exterior Scouting Missions, letting players build supply bases, take down Titans, and manage squad morale outside the Walls. Every expedition apparently comes with real risk, pushing further into Titan territory for better rewards or retreating to keep the squad alive.

Attack on Titan 3 is set to release this winter on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Voice actresses Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa) and Shiori Mikami (Historia) joined producer Hideo Suzuki for the presentation, and the game’s opening animation is being handled by MAPPA, the studio behind the anime’s Final Season. Arifumi Imai, a key animator and action storyboard artist on the anime, is directing that sequence himself.

That opening won’t be ready at launch, though. Koei Tecmo confirmed it will arrive later as a free update rather than shipping in the base game.

Koei Tecmo also confirmed the game will include brand-new original story content developed under series creator Hajime Isayama’s supervision, continuing a tradition from both previous entries. For fans who already know the manga inside and out, that’s the hook that makes Attack on Titan 3 worth picking up even after finishing the source material.

Attack on Titan 3 is also being showcased in person at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, running July 2 through July 5, where the latest trailer will screen at the AmiAmi booth.
