While Matt Reeves reinvented Gotham City as a rainy, noir-drenched detective playground in 2022, Robert Pattinson says fans should expect the unexpected when returning for The Batman Part II.
Robert Pattinson Teases Matt Reeves’ Massive Sequel Script
Speaking alongside co-star Skyler Gisondo about his approach to performance and upcoming projects, Pattinson was asked about director Matt Reeves’ unique and ambitious production methodology for the highly anticipated sequel.
“The script is incredibly dense,” Pattinson replied. “He’s just one of those directors who can have an entire story… it’s really obvious that he has the entire thing in his head already. There’s so much in it that it’s almost impossible to encompass the whole thing. But when you keep finding out that, oh no, he knows exactly what he wants to do with this, there’s just something so cool about it. It’s so ambitious.”
Rather than simply repeating the formula of the first film, Pattinson noted that Reeves is swerving in a completely different direction while preserving the gritty world-building fans fell in love with.
“I sort of said the other day that the first one was like a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another… it’s a real left turn from the first one,” Pattinson teased. “Somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it, but it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”
By prioritizing narrative density and an unexpected creative pivot over conventional franchise tropes, Reeves and Pattinson aim to challenge expectations once again as Gotham enters its next dark chapter.
The Batman Part II is set to release on February 18, 2018.
