While initial royal reports pointed to Harry reaching out to Diana’s old friends to spearhead the project, industry insiders claim the film is very much a joint venture, with Meghan Markle eyeing a major creative role.

Speaking on Maureen Callahan’s The Nerve podcast, insider Rob Shuter weighed in on reports first broken by the Daily Mail regarding Harry connecting with figures from his mother’s past. But according to Shuter, the documentary is far from a solo endeavor by the Duke of Sussex.
“When the Daily Mail broke the story that Harry was working on a movie, a TV movie about his mother, I hit the phones right away,” Shuter explained. “And immediately people said, ‘It’s Meghan.’ And it’s not Harry’s movie; it’s Harry and Meghan’s movie. It is the two of them.”
Shuter claimed that Meghan is deeply involved in shaping the narrative, driven by her belief that she shares a parallel emotional journey with the late People’s Princess. According to the former publicist, the Duchess feels uniquely qualified to help guide the project and potentially narrate it because she views her own struggles within the public eye as an extension of Diana’s historic ordeal.
“She fancies herself as a TV producer,” Shuter noted, pointing to her past media ventures and her confidence in steering television content. “She really does feel quite, quite, quite important within the world of television.”
While Prince Harry continues to honor his mother’s legacy on screen, Meghan is also weaving those personal connections into their everyday life, recently paying a subtle tribute to Diana by featuring her favorite Tina Turner anthem in her birthday video for Harry’s 42nd birthday.
