All eight episodes land together on October 7, so there is no weekly schedule to plan around. Prime Video announced the date at its San Diego Comic-Con panel, alongside the first teaser.

Flanagan named each episode after a class on a school schedule, and Prime Video revealed the titles as a timetable carrying Carrie White’s photo. He directs four episodes himself, and four other directors take one each.

Who Is in the Carrie Cast?

plays Carrie White, a role she won after a search that drew nearly 1,500 actors. Samantha Sloyan plays her fiercely protective mother, Margaret. Sloyan is a Flanagan regular who played the zealous Bev Keane in Midnight Mass, so her casting suggests religious control will be played as slow-building dread.

Amber Midthunder plays Miss Desjardin, the gym teacher who defends Carrie against her bullies. Matthew Lillard plays Principal Henry Grayle, who runs Thomas Ewen Consolidated High School. Between them sit the adults who see what is happening and the institution that lets it continue.

Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell and Alison Thornton plays Chris Hargensen, the two classmates on opposite ends of the story’s moral spectrum. The student ensemble also includes Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, and Thalia Dudek as Emaline.

Flanagan veterans Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham appear in recurring roles.

How Does Flanagan Modernize Stephen King’s Novel?

The biggest change is where the cruelty lives. The trailer shows classmates recording Carrie’s humiliation and spreading it online, and Prime Video’s synopsis describes a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community. A moment that once stayed inside a locker room now follows her into every feed.

I think the novel’s structure maps neatly onto this. King built the book from news clippings, court hearings, and case studies, and the modern equivalents are phone footage, leaked group chats, and school board inquiries. That is my read rather than something Prime Video has confirmed, but it gives the eight-episode format a natural reason to exist.

Flanagan has no interest in a straight remake, and he still holds Brian De Palma’s film in high regard. He has said it adapted the story “faithfully and beautifully,” as reported by Dark Horizons.

That tone gap matters most. De Palma’s 1976 film leans operatic and voyeuristic, and the series arrives in that film’s 50th anniversary year with a character-driven focus on trauma. Reports also indicate the prom, the story’s defining set piece, will play out very differently this time.
