Taylor Swift and Blake Lively‘s decade-long friendship may have quietly imploded, and the reason allegedly involves a stack of private text messages neither woman wanted made public.
The two have been close since 2015, with Swift even serving as godmother to one of Lively’s kids. That bond is now in tatters, tangled up in Lively’s ongoing legal war with her It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni.
Blake Lively Accused of Threatening to Leak Taylor Swift’s Texts
According to Baldoni’s chief attorney, Bryan Freedman, Lively’s legal team pressured Swift to publicly back Lively during the lawsuit and allegedly threatened exposure to make it happen. Freedman claims a reliable source told him that Lively’s lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, contacted Swift’s firm, Venable LLP, demanding a statement and warning that private text messages of a personal nature would be made public if Swift refused.
Reports have since gone further, with Daily Mail writing that Lively threatened to release ten years of private messages if Swift kept declining to speak up. One insider claimed the real breaking point actually came later, at the 2025 Super Bowl, when Lively was seemingly left off Swift’s guest list after the singer’s now-husband, Travis Kelce, played in the game.
Lively’s camp isn’t taking the accusation lying down. A source close to the actress insisted that Lively has never threatened to leak Taylor’s personal or private text messages, and Gottlieb himself called the entire allegation categorically false in a statement to People, saying it was untethered from reality and sourced to anonymous accusers with no evidence to back them up.
Swift’s team, for its part, has kept its public comments minimal. A spokesperson previously told The Independent that the singer’s only real connection to It Ends With Us was that her song “My Tears Ricochet” appeared on the soundtrack, thereby distancing her from the production drama entirely.
Still, Swift was officially subpoenaed as a witness in the Lively-Baldoni case, which is what pulled this alleged texting ultimatum into public court filings in the first place.
Neither Swift nor Lively has personally addressed why their friendship appears to have cooled. Fans have noted the pair haven’t been photographed together since the Super Bowl, a sharp contrast to a decade of public appearances, birthday tributes, and front-row support at each other’s biggest career moments.
