Meghan Markle’s Social Media Post Called Out for ‘Striking’ Hypocrisy

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing fresh criticism over how they balance their public privacy stance with their social media habits, and this time it centers squarely on their two young kids.

The Duchess of Sussex posted an Instagram video Friday showing glimpses of the couple’s life since relocating to the UK, including their 5-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, and 7-year-old son, Prince Archie.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield did not hold back when discussing the video’s timing and content, pointing to the contradiction between demanding seclusion and spotlighting family life for millions of followers. Speaking to Page Six, she offered a blunt assessment of the strategy:

“If privacy is genuinely the priority, the most effective strategy is simple: stop broadcasting your family life to millions of strangers,” Schofield said.” “Every hyper-curated glimpse of the children, the dogs, the countryside, and their domestic routine invites more attention, more questions, and more interest in where and how they are living.”

Schofield extended her criticism to Harry directly, pointing out that he has spent years speaking about how media attention harmed his own childhood, yet is now involved in packaging his children’s lives for public consumption. She labeled the move “striking” in its “hypocrisy.”

“You cannot deliberately feed that machine and then act astonished or outraged when people want to know more. He has spent years describing the damage he believes media attention caused him as a child, yet he is now participating in packaging portions of his own children’s childhood for public consumption,” she said.

Royal commentator Tom Sykes echoed the sentiment in comments to Page Six, saying the video felt designed to sell a narrative of glossy family perfection and calling the children’s inclusion jarring. 

In the video, Markle showed her and Harry holding hands on a walk, Lilibet riding a bike, and Archie running alongside her, though the kids’ faces stayed hidden. Markle has previously said she worried about paparazzi tracking the children at school. The couple has since enrolled Archie and Lilibet in a UK prep school reportedly costing $35,000 a year.
