arrives this Friday, October 30, and Apple TV is opening with a double drop. Liev Schreiber plays a detective chasing a quiet life, and Stephen Graham plays the killer who makes sure he never gets one.

Nocturne premieres on Friday, October 30, 2026, with the first two episodes landing together. The remaining eight arrive weekly on Fridays, and the 10-episode season ends on Christmas Day, December 25.

Apple TV announced the date alongside the official trailer and key art on September 29. A holiday finale for a serial killer thriller is a bold choice, and we suspect the weekly rollout is built to keep the conversation going through the season. The series also slots in as Dark Matter wraps its second season, giving Apple TV a new weekly as another one ends.

Tim Van Patten directs the first two episodes and executive produces, while Allen Coulter and Logan Kibens take the next four between them. Anu Menon and Joe Chappelle are also credited as directors, though Apple TV has not matched them to specific episodes.

Apple TV’s synopsis introduces Jonah Lynn as an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who is worn out by the work on Philadelphia’s streets. He moves to a small town in Western Pennsylvania in search of a quiet life, but that peace does not last.

Jurek Walter (Stephen Graham) is a “diabolically cunning serial killer,” and he puts both the town and Jonah’s family under attack. Jonah’s only job from there is to protect everything he holds dear. The story then turns on a missing person.

“When the desperate search for Jurek’s last missing victim forces Jonah to send his surrogate daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer (Zazie Beetz), up against Jurek, how far will Jonah go?”the synopsis asks.

The setup runs on two tracks. One follows a family under threat at home, and the other follows a hunt for a victim who may still be alive. I those are echoes of the two source novels, with the missing victim recalling The Sandman and the threat to loved ones recalling Lazarus, though that is my take and not something Apple TV has confirmed.

Yes. The series adapts two novels by Lars Kepler, The Sandman and Lazarus, the fourth and seventh books in the Joona Linna crime series. Kepler is the pen name of Swedish husband-and-wife writers Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril, and they are listed among the executive producers.

In The Sandman, a young man named Mikael is found wandering outside Stockholm thirteen years after he disappeared with his younger sister. Both were long believed to be victims of Jurek Walter, who is serving a life sentence in a maximum security psychiatric hospital. Mikael insists his sister is still alive, and the only route to her runs through Jurek, which sends Saga undercover into the ward where he is held.

Meanwhile, in Lazarus, ruthless criminals across Europe begin dying in gruesome ways, and the police are in no hurry to stop whoever is responsible. When two victims turn out to have disturbing ties to Joona, he becomes convinced a single killer is working toward something much darker. He turns to Saga, who is battling her own demons, as the killer starts targeting the people closest to them both.

The change from Joona Linna to Jonah Lynn, along with the move from Sweden to Pennsylvania, shows how freely the series is reshaping the books. The project was first developed as Lazarus in February 2023, with Tom Hardy and Beetz attached, before Schreiber took the lead.

Rowan Joffé, who wrote Brighton Rock and The American, created the series for television and writes. John Hlavin, whose credits include Shooter and The Shield, developed it, writes, and co-showruns alongside Joffé, with A+E Studios producing in association with Range Studios.
