Anne Hathaway is setting the record straight on one of the most talked-about stories surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2, and she did it unprompted.

The controversy started in March, when her co-star Meryl Streep told Harper’s Bazaar she’d been struck by how thin the models on set were. Streep revealed that Hathaway “made a beeline to the producers,” securing promises that the models in the film “would not be so skeletal,” calling her co-star “a standup girl.”

Anne Hathaway Clarifies No Models Were Fired From Devil Wears Prada 2

At the New York premiere last week, Hathaway confirmed it to Variety: “I just went to the producers and I asked that question: ‘Don’t you think the scene would be stronger if we had a more inclusive approach to sizing?'” She said the producers “looked up and were so sad that they hadn’t thought about it” and made the change within an hour.

That speed is what sparked the rumor that the original models had been fired to make room. Hathaway jumped in on Good Morning America to shut it down: “There’s a little misinformation getting out there right now that people were fired because of the size inclusivity and that just didn’t happen.” She was unambiguous: “Nobody lost their jobs; in fact, it created more jobs.”

She also gave fans a glimpse of why the scene matters: “There’s a song that Lady Gaga wrote and it’s a beautiful, amazing song. Isn’t it better when you see so many different types of bodies up there with that?”

It’s a pointed contrast to the original, where Miranda Priestly’s “a size six is the new fourteen” line has aged about as well as you’d expect. Twenty years later, the sequel seems determined to do things differently, and Hathaway is making sure the record reflects that.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in cinemas this weekend.
