Spoilers ahead for all 10 episodes of Season 3, including the finale.

Season 3 of is about what comes after the grand gesture. Joanne and Noah move in together, she works through her conversion classes, and both families get louder the closer a wedding gets. The season takes its time with all of that, and its best scenes are the ones where it stops circling and commits.

These are the five moments that stood out most to me, ranked, with a recap of what happens in each so you can place them in the season. Netflix hasn’t announced a Season 4 yet, which makes a few of these endings matter more.

5. Morgan and Sasha’s One-Bed Night in New York (Episode 7)

This is the season’s secondary storyline at its best, and every complication in the finale traces back to it. It earns the final spot because it’s funny first and painful second.

Morgan has an invitation to appear on Watch What Happens Live after her book proposal falls through, and she asks Sasha to come to New York. The suite has one bed, and Sasha offers to take the couch. Morgan watches an old episode and realizes Lisa Rinna wore the jumpsuit she planned to wear, so they rush out and find a Valentino dress. Sasha offers to pay. At the studio, he helps calm her nerves, and she does well.

Afterward, they celebrate over drinks and dinner. Sasha pays again and explains that he always pays on dates. They text their siblings, but Joanne and Noah have switched their phones off for the night.

Before they kiss, Sasha stops. He loves having her as his best friend and worries they won’t be able to go back. Morgan agrees, and then they sleep together anyway. He wakes up to find that she has already taken an early flight home.

It’s the clearest look at both characters. Morgan runs when the stakes go up, and Sasha, freshly out of a marriage, can’t trust himself to risk it. That sets up the Christmas dinner in Episode 9 and the finale.

4. Noah’s Napa Proposal and the Nicole Detour (Episode 4)

The proposal works because the episode earns it, and because it’s lifted from real life. (Yes, it was inspired by co-showrunner Erin Foster’s August 2019 engagement.)

Joanne arrives in a bad place, and the detour that gets her to Napa tells her what she needs to hear before the proposal does. Having lost 1,000 followers, she is convinced internet hates happy people, and considers skipping the trip Noah says is for a wedding. However, he insists he needs her there.

At the airport they meet Nicole (Foster, in her first onscreen cameo), a messy podcast fan flying out to reconnect with an old flame. Joanne gives up her seat, and Noah starts trying to buy someone else’s. Then Nicole admits the man is her brother-in-law. Joanne sees her old self in Nicole and realizes you have to like yourself enough to believe you deserve better than chasing someone unavailable. She takes her ticket back.

At the vineyard there are no guests, just an employee reciting lines Noah fed her. Then ‘s “Lover” starts playing, her favorite orange wine and tulips are waiting, and Noah gets down on one knee.

“You are just my absolute favorite person,” he says while opening a perfect ring from a red jewelry box. “And I want us to spend the rest of our lives together if you’ll have me.”

Joanne says yes, and Sasha and Morgan are waiting in the vineyard, flown in secretly by Noah. It’s the season’s happiest group moment, and it’s a little ironic in hindsight, since these two siblings are about to cause most of the chaos that follows.

3. Esther Finds Out About Morgan and Sasha (Episode 10)

If the mikvah is the emotional peak, this is the comic one. A season of slow-burning secrets finally goes off in one living room, and it involves four people, two sets of parents, and a plate of food that nobody gets to finish.

Joanne and Noah have tricked Morgan into the trip. She believes Sasha isn’t coming, then they pull up outside his house and make her ride with him. At the Malibu house, Lynn says she is glad the four of them traveled together and that Morgan and Sasha should sort things out after New York. Esther asks her to explain.

Sasha walks in carrying Morgan, who sprained her ankle on the way, and Esther asks them directly, in front of the entire family, whether they are sleeping together. They are. Esther is furious with them and with Joanne and Noah for knowing. Then she mentions she slept with Sasha the day before before Sasha eventually drops Morgan when it all comes out.

Bina asks what her family did to deserve this family, and Lynn fires back. Lynn and her ex-husband Henry team up against Bina and the Champagne Society, which is a nice reversal for two parents who spent the girls’ childhoods in conflict.

Bina closes the argument by saying she has no more sons for Lynn’s daughters to corrupt. Esther later tells Sasha, privately, that he can do whatever he wants now. He had denied anything was happening with Morgan every time she asked.

2. Noah and Joanne Marry on the Beach With Rabbi Eden (Episode 10)

The finale could have ended on the mikvah and been complete. Instead, it ends on a second ceremony, and it’s the right call after a season of wedding plans slipping out of Joanne and Noah’s hands.

The backstory is that they start with a small outdoor wedding in mind. Bina (Tovah Feldshuh) offers her backyard, her shawl and her tiara, and then keeps adding. She wants butterflies released at the end, a 14-person band, and flowers that don’t suit Joanne.

She also cancels their DJ behind their backs. A venue they love collapses because they can’t cut 250 guests down to 75. Joanne agrees to the backyard only after realizing Noah actually wants to marry at his family home.

On the beach, Noah tells Joanne the wedding is supposed to be about the two of them and has drifted far from that. He asks if Eden can marry them right there. They have a ring that belongs to Joanne, and Eden lends Noah her own. Eden has the celebration wine and a ketubah in her car trunk, and a passerby walking his dog becomes the witness.

Joanne worries about the invitations that have already gone out, then says yes. The episode cuts as Eden begins the ceremony, with My Kinda Love by Stella Lefty and Bailey Zimmerman playing, leaving viewers with one burning question: does an impromptu beach ceremony actually make them husband and wife, or is there a major catch?

Here is the full NSN breakdown of whether Joanne and Noah are legally married.

1. Joanne’s Ocean Mikvah Is the Season’s Emotional Peak (Episode 10)

The show’s central question since the pilot has been why Joanne, an agnostic podcaster, would convert. Season 3 answers it in a single scene, and it lands because nobody else gets to answer for her. It also helps that the scene sits in the quietest corner of the loudest episode.

The whole family is fighting inside the Malibu rental while Joanne walks down to the water with Noah and Rabbi Eden.

Joanne explains how her reasons changed over the course of the classes, with her first reason being Noah. Later, she kept going because of him. Eventually, she reached the point of wanting it for herself. She says she wants to see the world the way he does i.e. quick to forgive, slow to judge, able to find meaning in places she would otherwise overlook.

She also thinks about the family they will have. She wants their kids to know they belong to something bigger than their own household, and to have traditions to lean on when they feel lost. She then goes into the ocean alone and recites the blessing while Noah and Eden watch from the sand.

The payoff is stronger because of the people around her. Sebastien (Andrew Rannells) opens the season by telling her it is brave to convert when she isn’t even engaged. By the last class, they are practically friends. Eden (Sarah Silverman) admits earlier in the season that she wanted the senior rabbi job Noah got and that nobody considered her. She still ends up being the one standing on that beach.

Nobody Wants This Season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix.
