100studio’s anime adaptation of Tsuyoshi Takaki’s cult-favorite manga Black Torch is heading toward its final battle, and Episode 11, “Black and White,” finally gives Jiro Azuma the breakthrough he has needed throughout the season. With Amagi’s plan fully exposed and Rago’s power becoming the key to stopping him, the penultimate episode leaves the Black Torch squad with almost no room for mistakes.
Jiro’s biggest development comes when he stops treating Rago’s power as something he simply borrows in desperate situations. Instead, he begins to understand how he can control that power himself, setting up what could be the biggest test of his growth when the 12th and final episode arrives.
Amagi’s Plan Finally Comes Into Focus
Episode 11 spends time exploring Amagi’s past and the hatred that drives his plan. His goal is not simply to defeat the Bureau of Espionage but to establish a world where mononoke hold absolute dominance over humanity.
To achieve that, Amagi needs something he cannot create on his own: Rago.
Rago’s reputation as the legendary “Black Star of Doom” makes him one of the most powerful sources of supernatural energy in the story. Amagi wants to capture and consume that power, believing it will give him enough strength to crush the Bureau and force humanity into submission.
That puts Rago at the center of the final conflict, but it also creates a different problem for Jiro. His connection with the mononoke has always been built around using overwhelming power in the middle of a fight, often without enough control over what comes next.
Jiro’s Awakening Changes the Final Battle
Episode 11 finally shows Jiro moving beyond that approach. With Rago separated and Amagi getting closer to achieving his goal, Jiro has to find a way to draw on the mononoke energy that remains within him without allowing that power to completely overwhelm him.
His shinobi training becomes just as important as the strength Rago provides. Jiro combines his combat instincts with the trust he has developed in Rago, allowing him to access the mononoke’s power with far greater control than before.
That is what makes the awakening important for the finale. Jiro is no longer simply acting as a vessel for Rago’s strength. He is beginning to wield it deliberately, which could give him a genuine chance against Amagi at full power.
There is still one issue with the episode. The emotional progression between Jiro, Ichika and Reiji feels slightly rushed, particularly when they share their brief moment of unity before the final battle. With only 12 episodes, some of that development had to happen quickly, and the pacing occasionally makes the trio’s bond feel more accelerated than it should.
Even so, the visual execution remains one of the strongest parts of the adaptation, and the final setup carries real weight. Jiro now has control over the very power Amagi wants to steal, while Rago remains the most important piece on the board.
The 12th and final episode of Black Torch is scheduled to air on Crunchyroll on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
