Inde Navarrette is pushing back on the idea of Freaky Nikki being simply a villain after the character from Obsession became part of Halloween Horror Nights.
The actress addressed the debate surrounding Nikki while celebrating the horror movie’s continued success at TIFF, where she and director Curry Barker marked one year since its world premiere.
Inde Navarrette Wants to Honor Nikki’s Experience
Speaking with ET’s Cassie DiLaura, Navarrette was asked about fans pointing out that Freaky Nikki is more of a victim than a villain. The actress said she wanted to be careful about how Nikki’s story is viewed while also appreciating the attention Halloween Horror Nights has given the character.
“You know what? That’s a really good question. And I want to honor, um, you know, Nikki’s experience. Um, but I also want to honor the fact that, you know, Hollywood Horror Nights has given her an opportunity to roam around and kind of be seen. And I just love that they’re protecting her. You know, she’s got security. She’s being taken care of. And I just, I—I don’t know any more than that,” the actress explained.
The discussion comes as Obsession continues its run as a breakout horror hit. The film was released on May 15, 2026, has grossed more than $512.6 million worldwide on a tiny budget of roughly $750,000, and is now available to stream on Peacock.
Navarrette is also moving into several new projects, including Marvel‘s upcoming X-Men movie, where she is set to play Rogue, as well as Apple Original Films’ sci-fi thriller The Waffle House Index. She is also scheduled to host the Halloween episode of Saturday Night Live on October 31, 2026.
