Sandra Bullock is already mapping out the long-term future of the Practical Magic universe before the dust has even settled on the sequel. While fans are focused on her reunion with Nicole Kidman after nearly three decades, Bullock has her sights set on a third installment, and she already has a concrete plan in place to hand the reins over to her on-screen daughters.
Sandra Bullock’s Plan to Let the Next Generation Take Over the Owens Coven
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Bullock was asked point-blank whether she’d be interested in doing a Practical Magic 3. Her answer came with a full succession plan already built around her on-screen daughters, Joey King and Maisie Williams.
“We would love to,” Bullock declared. “Light the torches of the girls, the young women, Joey and Maisie.”
The idea slots neatly into where Practical Magic 2 already leaves things. The sequel, which reunites Bullock’s Sally Owens with Nicole Kidman’s Gillian nearly three decades after the original, shifts real narrative weight onto King and Williams as Sally’s daughters, Kylie and Antonia.
Bullock envisions herself and Kidman eventually stepping into the elder witch roles that Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest have occupied across both films.
“Like we’d be the aunts,” she said.
Fallon seemed just as taken with the idea, prompting an enthusiastic response from Bullock herself.
“Yes! I would love this.”
Whether that future actually happens still comes down to box office math. Bullock has previously said a third film depends on how Practical Magic 2 performs in theaters, framing the sequel as the real test of whether audiences want more time with the Owens family.
Practical Magic 2 is now playing in theaters, with King and Williams stepping into roles originated by Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip in the 1998 original.
