CD Projekt Red has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, but the biggest part of the Gamescom 2026 reveal is what existing players will get without paying again. The remastered version will launch on September 29, 2026, and owners of the base game will receive the upgrade for free.
The studio is also making Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine free for existing owners, turning the announcement into a particularly generous upgrade for anyone who already owns the 2015 RPG. The same presentation also revealed another Witcher 3 expansion for 2027, although that one will be sold separately.
How To Get The Free Upgrade And What The Remaster Adds
Anyone who owns The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be able to claim the remastered version at no additional cost when it launches on September 29. The free upgrade applies to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while a native Nintendo Switch 2 version is also coming. Players who already own the game on the original Switch will be eligible for the upgraded version as well.
PC players will have another option when the remaster arrives, with The Witcher 3 making its debut on Battle.net.
The two original expansions are part of the free offer as well. Owners of the base game can download Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine without paying for them, giving returning players access to the two major story expansions alongside the remastered game.
CD Projekt Red is also changing more than the game’s presentation. The new version includes upgraded ray tracing and path tracing, revamped skill trees, improved monster behavior and refinements to mount handling, traversal and animations.
Combat is receiving another notable addition through a new chain weapon, which gives players an additional way to fight enemies and adds another gameplay change to the remastered experience.
The package is not the end of CD Projekt Red’s plans for Geralt, either. Songs of the Past, a new expansion scheduled for 2027, was revealed during the same showcase. Unlike the remaster and the two existing DLC expansions, it will be a separate paid release.
The first teaser introduced Letten, described as “an idyllic land of rural tradition that hides a dark secret just below the surface.” CD Projekt Red has not yet revealed more about the story, characters or exact release date.
That leaves existing Witcher 3 owners with a substantial free upgrade coming in September, while players looking for an entirely new adventure will have Songs of the Past to watch for in 2027.
