Benny Blanco loves his wife enough to spend more than a week at sea just to see her. The catch is that it has nothing to do with romance and everything to do with a plane.
Selena Gomez has been in London since May filming season six of Only Murders in the Building, and the couple have been keeping their marriage alive across an ocean ever since. They reportedly try to reunite every few weeks, which for most people means a quick flight. For Blanco, it means something else entirely.
Benny Blanco’s Fear of Flying Sends Him Back to Sea
Blanco posted a TikTok on July 16 showing himself aboard a ship in open water, with on-screen text reading, “POV: ur traveling across the atlantic in the titanic to see ur wife bc ur scared of flying.” He captioned the clip “the things we do for love,” and set it to Sam Cooke’s ‘Nothing Can Change This Love.’
This is not a new bit for him. Blanco has previously explained that reaching Europe means driving from Los Angeles to New York first, then boarding a ship for roughly eight days. He has compared the journey to being on the Titanic, and he once made a similar crossing with Ed Sheeran while working on Sheeran’s 2017 album Divide.
He is not avoiding the fear entirely. Blanco took his first flight in more than eight years back in April, documenting his nerves in real time on TikTok, right down to the exhale after takeoff and a very audible reaction to looking down at the coastline. He also plugged his self-help book, Fck Failure*, in that video, joking about being the poster child for the very thing the book is about.
Gomez, for her part, has said she is not sure she would even want to fly beside him. She has joked that she would spend the whole flight worried about him instead of relaxing.
The timing of this latest voyage adds a sweeter layer to the story. Gomez turns 34 on July 22, and the crossing puts Blanco in London in time for her birthday. It is also a busy stretch for him professionally, with his new album Hermoso set to arrive August 14 and his single Joven y Salvaje with Bb trickz already out. None of that kept him off the boat.
The couple started dating in 2023 and went public in December that year before getting engaged a year later. They tied the knot in a private ceremony in September 2025.
Gomez’s birthday lands on July 22, and Blanco is already somewhere in the Atlantic to make sure he is there for it.
