Selena Gomez is not sitting quietly while her name gets dragged through a courtroom. Her legal team has responded firmly to a lawsuit accusing her of fraud, and the statement did not hold back.
The suit centers on Wondermind, the mental health company Gomez co-founded in 2021 alongside her mother, Mandy Teefey, and former business partner Daniella Pierson. Investors filed the complaint on August 13, accusing the trio of misleading them about the company’s leadership, infrastructure, and momentum.

Gomez’s attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart, wasted no time shutting the claims down. In a statement to the press on Saturday, he said, “The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally.”
He didn’t stop there either. Rosengart added that the team will “vigorously defend these false allegations” and confirmed they are already moving to file a motion to dismiss the case entirely.
The lawsuit itself paints a messy picture. Investors, who reportedly put over a million dollars into the company, claim Gomez and Teefey’s relationship grew strained behind the scenes, pointing to undisclosed personal disputes that allegedly made their joint involvement in Wondermind impractical.
The complaint also accuses the company of leaning on A-list names in pitch materials to suggest momentum that never actually materialized, and it makes a particularly startling claim that Teefey missed meetings and brushed off a missed payroll at one point.
Pierson, who is also named in the suit, has pushed back through her own representative. A spokesperson told press she welcomes the chance to present financial records that back up the facts, and made clear she has never used investor funds for personal expenses.
Wondermind launched in 2022 as a self-described mental fitness ecosystem, offering digital content, podcasts, and resources aimed at destigmatizing mental health struggles. Gomez, who also runs Rare Beauty, has built a business empire that reportedly pushed her past billionaire status in late 2024.
For now, the case sits in federal court, with Gomez’s team already signaling they intend to fight it before it goes any further. Expect the motion to dismiss to be the next major flashpoint in this story.
