“New Avengers-wise, Marvel is planning to wait less time to make the next Avengers movie because they want to focus on the actual team and less on the big event team-ups. As for the Black Widow plot… I heard something interesting about a certain character who died, but her technology will be reused for another character who’ll take up her mantle.”
The report appears to connect directly to Thunderbolts (2025), where Antonia Dreykov, introduced as Taskmaster in Black Widow, was reportedly killed early during a mission at a covert O.X.E. facility. However, the key detail lies in what remains, her mimicry technology, including the biochip and suit systems that defined the character’s abilities.
This opens the door for what fans are calling a “mantle transfer.” Rather than retconning events, Marvel could introduce a new character who inherits the tech. Many believe this could finally bring in a more comic-accurate version of Taskmaster, potentially resembling Tony Masters, the mercenary known for his photographic reflexes and distinct personality.
