Fans still waiting on Invincible Season 5 just got a reason to look even further down the road. J.K. Simmons, the voice behind Omni-Man himself, has confirmed the show is already moving on the season after next.
Invincible has spent four seasons methodically wrecking Mark Grayson‘s life. Steven Yeun’s teenage superhero spent his first two seasons balancing homework and heat vision, only for the show to swerve hard into brutal, R-rated territory by Season 3, complete with mass civilian casualties and a messy detour into time travel.
Season 4 didn’t let up either. It brought back the Sequids, sent Mark to Hell, delivered a bloody rematch with Conquest (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and kicked off the Viltrumite War with the arrival of Grand Regent Thragg (Lee Pace). Season 5 is confirmed and expected sometime in 2027, but Season 6 remains a total mystery.
J.K. Simmons Confirms Invincible Season 6 Has Started Recording
Simmons cleared that up while speaking with ScreenRant. According to him, Season 6 “just started recording. At least I just started recording some chunks of Season 6.”
That alone is a big deal for a show that has typically shipped one season a year, aside from the longer gap between Seasons 1 and 2. Simmons also acknowledged just how far ahead the voice work runs compared to release dates, explaining that “there’s such a lag time because there’s quite a bit of work that needs to be done after we do our initial voice work.”
It’s a reminder of just how much post-production, animation, and editing happen after the actors finish their sessions, which is exactly why Season 5 is still a year-plus away, even with Season 6 already rolling.
Simmons also got reflective about how far the show has come since he signed on. He admitted he initially saw the gig as a low-effort bonus, joking that it was “voiceover, so I don’t have to shave,” and that he mostly took the job because Steven Yeun and Sandra Oh were already attached. Looking back, he called the show’s impact something he “honestly undervalued” when he first started.
With Thragg and the Viltrumite War looming large over Season 5, knowing Season 6 is already being recorded means Kirkman and the Invincible team have no plans to let the momentum slow down. Season 5 is still targeting a 2027 release on Prime Video, and the latest update from Simmons suggests the show’s future beyond that is already locked in.
