The Odyssey is already making a lot of noise, even though the film hasn’t premiered yet, and everyone is excited about Zendaya starring in it. As an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, the movie will be directed by renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan and promises to become one of the most anticipated blockbusters ever.

A Star-Studded Cast and Groundbreaking Production

The film will debut in U.S. movie theaters on July 17, 2026. Some other countries are also rumored to get early access to the film with premieres on July 16, 2026.

What is even more impressive is the production itself, as Nolan managed to create a movie that could be considered an absolute first in Hollywood history. It was filmed using IMAX 70mm film cameras, which are known for producing high sound levels during shooting, but the director reportedly used new camera technology said to be much quieter.

Zendaya will play Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, warfare, and guidance. In the mythological story, Athena helps Odysseus on his journey back to his beloved Ithaca. It will be interesting to see how the actress handles such an iconic character after her successful roles in films such as Dune: Part Two and Challengers.

It is worth mentioning that Zendaya will not be the only major star appearing in The Odyssey. Matt Damon will play Odysseus, the central character of the story. He will appear alongside Tom Holland as Telemachus.

Moreover, Odysseus’ wife, Penelope, will be portrayed by none other than Anne Hathaway, while his enemy Antinous will be played by Robert Pattinson. The movie also stars Charlize Theron as Circe, Lupita Nyong’o as Clytemnestra, and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus.

Interestingly, the shooting process reportedly took place in various locations around the globe, including Morocco, Iceland, Sicily, Greece, and Scotland. It is also no surprise that Nolan once again teamed up with Ludwig Göransson as composer after their collaborations on Oppenheimer and Tenet.
