Will Debbie ever forgive Omni-Man? Here’s what we think

The question of whether Debbie Grayson will forgive Omni-Man (aka Nolan) has dominated the narrative throughout Invincible season 4 and has become the show’s emotional core. However, while initially this scenario seemed straightforward, with the protagonist refusing to forgive his former self, now there are new layers and nuance behind his possible forgiveness and reconciliation.

From “I Miss My Wife” to “Earn Your Apologies”

Previously, the major reason preventing Nolan from gaining forgiveness from his ex-wife was his refusal to see himself as anything other than a Viltrumite warrior and alien conqueror. However, during season 4, Nolan proved to be far more than that, destroying the image of “Omni-Man.”

In the most recent episode, Nolan rejected the idea of rejoining his former people, labeling his empire “a tomb.” He is now fighting not only to defeat Viltrum, but also to prevent it from becoming a threat to Earth again—an important detail that Debbie did not ignore, since the first thing she cared about before was Nolan’s humanity. Finally, he was able to prove himself worthy when saving their son from imminent death, showing that there were some aspects of human traits inside the Viltrumite.

Nevertheless, it seems that Debbie Grayson still has something to think about. Even though she has been actively trying to understand Nolan’s past actions and the reasons behind them and has even moved past being a simple superhero’s wife, she does not appear to be ready for total forgiveness yet. The point is, no matter how much her husband has changed, the blood of thousands of victims will remain between them forever.

Now, as per the recent plot, Invincible shows that the Graysons’ marriage is doomed forever. The damage has already been done; the couple may have to move on without their previous relationship. They will never be a family like before, but they are on the verge of finding some common ground for the sake of their boys.

What will make Debbie forgive Nolan in the end is their children’s well-being and safety. It is evident that Oliver and Mark have always been the glue that held their parents together, and now it will work vice versa. During the most recent episode, when Nolan saw their almost dead bodies, he understood what kind of pain it brings to Debbie’s heart. Now, seeing Nolan as a concerned father finally made fans realize that he is not entirely to blame anymore.

Final Verdict: What To Expect Next?

It is quite obvious that, come the finale, Debbie and Nolan will not have some kind of “happy ending.” However, the current scenario makes it clear that they are not doomed to remain in silence and hate forever; they will find peace, albeit of different kinds.

It is very likely that Nolan will succeed in the upcoming battles against Viltrumites, making the Invincible Season 4 finale quite unpredictable. But whether or not the hero will manage to survive and return to Earth, they will both find their way to forgiveness and acceptance of the new reality.

Invincible Season 4 finale airs next Wednesday on Prime Video.
