Debbie Grayson rejected Omni-Man‘s apology in Invincible Season 4, and the finale left the question of forgiveness open. Will she ever forgive the man who left her and devastated Chicago?

Nolan returned to Earth in Episode 5 and apologized to Debbie, who told him the damage could not be repaired. By the finale, he was asking for a chance to show who he is now, and Debbie still was not ready to give it. Here is what we think happens next.

Has Omni-Man Changed Enough to Earn Debbie’s Forgiveness?

Previously, the major reason preventing Nolan from gaining forgiveness from his ex-wife was his refusal to see himself as anything other than a Viltrumite warrior and alien conqueror. However, during season 4, Nolan proved to be far more than that, destroying the image of “Omni-Man.”

Nolan’s change started in Season 2, when he realized he missed his wife. Since then he has turned on the Viltrumite Empire and joined the Coalition of Planets in the war against it. He also trained Oliver, the son he had with a Thraxan woman.

Nolan and Oliver then helped pull Mark through his fight with Conquest, and Nolan nursed him back to health over two months. He has shown that he will fight and sacrifice for his sons.

Debbie’s rejection in Episode 5 shows why that is not enough. She told Nolan the damage could not be repaired, and she asked him whether she was still his pet, the word he used for her in Season 1. Apologies and heroic acts alone do not earn her forgiveness.

Debbie was not the only one to turn Nolan away. Art, the tailor, refused to repair his costume and said he only dresses heroes. People still see Nolan as the man he was.

In the finale, Nolan told Debbie that everything had changed and asked for a chance to show who he is now. She refused and vented to Paul. Nolan also told her that Oliver is getting the best treatment from the Coalition, and Debbie left with him for Talescria.

Final Verdict: Will Debbie Forgive Omni-Man?

I do not think a happy ending is coming soon. In the comics, Debbie and Nolan do rekindle their romance, but not right away, and she does not forgive him when he first apologizes. The show has given Debbie far more to do than the comic did, so it may not follow the same path.

My guess is that Mark and Oliver are the common ground. Debbie raised Oliver, and Nolan is now fighting alongside both sons, so they share a stake in keeping them alive. That would fall short of forgiveness, but it gives them a reason to work together.

The show has set up Nolan’s redemption as something he must earn from the people he hurt, and Debbie decides whether he has.
