The Snowball Earth finale kills its last kaiju in under four minutes, yet Tetsuo and Yukio’s war is nowhere near finished. So who was that final kaiju, and what did the ending actually settle?
Studio KAI’s adaptation of Yuhiro Tsujitsugu’s manga ran 13 episodes from April 3 to June 26, 2026 before debuting on Netflix oin October. Most of the back half belonged to Colonel Sagami, the Vierde commander who controlled the kaiju Hercules and hunted the hero he envied. After Tetsuo beat Hercules in episode 11, I assumed Sagami was the end of the line.
However, Episode 12 proved me wrong. Sagami told Yuma he had brainwashed her and the other children under his command, and the same episode revealed a kaiju hiding in human form.
Who Is Nadare, the Final Kaiju in Snowball Earth?

The final kaiju is Nadare, a humanoid who had been manipulating Sagami from the shadows. Episode 12 set this up when a girl turned out to be a kaiju in human form, one that had swapped bodies with a member of Sagami’s group to get close to him.
Episode 13 then reveals Nadare as an avatar of Hitogata, the force behind the Great Freeze that wrecked Earth. Sagami is left stunned by the truth, and Nadare merges with the corpse of Hercules to attack. Tetsuo and Yukio fight it while badly wounded.
The fight itself is short. It runs under four minutes at the start of the episode and ends with Nadare decapitated before the battle builds. That is the last Tetsuo sees of her.
What Does the Ending Leave Open for Season 2?
Nadare was only an avatar, so the thing that caused the Great Freeze is not what Tetsuo killed. I read that as the series telling us the real enemy is still out there.
Sagami’s story closes just as firmly. Tetsuo confronts him about his savior complex, and he ends the episode with his own grave behind the survivors’ memorial.
The rest of the finale is aftermath. The survivors honor their dead, and Tetsuo shows he has grown into a far better communicator than the boy who could barely speak in episode 1. They also settle on a plan to move out West.
Season 2 was announced right after the finale aired, and it picks up from there. Tetsuo searches for a shelter to replace Mishima Mall, teaming up with Nayuta, a former enemy, and Tamiya of E-RDE, until a new monster complicates the search. That gives the show a fresh mission while Hitogata’s shadow hangs over it.
Snowball Earth Season 2 is in production, with no release date announced yet, and the manga entered its final story arc in September 2026.
