Fans of the Upside Down are heading back to Hawkins much sooner than expected. has confirmed that : Tales From ’85 Season 2 will premiere on September 17, 2026, just a few months after the animated spinoff made its debut.

The quick turnaround is one of the biggest surprises surrounding the new season. Season 1 premiered on April 23, meaning the second chapter will arrive less than five months later. Netflix had previously confirmed that the series would return, but the September date was not what many fans expected.

The story also takes a strange seasonal turn. The new episodes move into February 1985 and build toward Valentine’s Day, even though viewers will be watching them in September. Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will and Max will face another supernatural mystery while the Hawkins Investigators Club tries to understand what is happening around them.

The new adventure will take the group into unfamiliar parts of Hawkins, including a previously unexplored mine, while a strange flower begins appearing throughout town. Showrunner Eric Robles has already teased how that seemingly harmless discovery becomes part of a much bigger problem.

Netflix will release Season 2 on September 17, 2026. The streamer has confirmed the date through Tudum, although an exact release time has not been announced.

The first season premiered on April 23 and ran for 10 episodes, making the gap between the two seasons unusually short. Netflix has not indicated that the September release means the remaining episodes are being rushed out, so there is currently no reason to assume the series is being “burned off.”

The new story picks up shortly after Season 1 and moves the timeline into February 1985. The Hawkins Investigators Club is preparing for Valentine’s Day when mysterious “ghostly” apparitions and a swarm of hate sprites begin causing trouble around town.

The kids soon find themselves investigating another paranormal threat before it can lead to a new gate opening to the Upside Down. Their search will also take them into parts of Hawkins that have not been explored in the franchise before.

One particularly strange element involves flowers appearing across the town. Robles explained that Max and Nikki initially see an opportunity in the mysterious plants, only for their plan to create a much larger problem.

“We think that the kids are going back to their normal lives, but we start to discover that these flowers are popping up all over Hawkins,” Robles told Netflix Tudum. “Nikki and Max are scheming to sell the flowers all over Hawkins. Now [they] are going to be everywhere, which creates a bigger problem.”

The returning voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Luca Diaz as Mike, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max. Odessa A’zion also returns as Nikki Baxter, while Brett Gipson, Jeremy Jordan and other supporting performers are back for the new season.

Netflix has not announced individual episode titles or a detailed episode rollout beyond the September 17 premiere. The first season is currently available to stream on Netflix, giving viewers plenty of time to revisit the Hawkins Investigators Club before their next mystery begins.
