Scary Movie is back in theaters, and Marlon Wayans is already thinking about the next target. Before the sixth film has even had its opening weekend, he’s pointing the franchise’s crosshairs squarely at two of the biggest horror hits of the moment.

Backrooms and Obsession are the two films currently dominating the box office, and they have not gone unnoticed by the Wayans camp. Backrooms opened to over $80 million domestically and quickly became one of the biggest surprise hits of 2026. Obsession has been holding firm week after week with strong returns of its own. Together, they represent exactly the kind of cultural moment the Scary Movie franchise was built to lampoon.

Marlon Wayans Has Already Confirmed the Next Spoof Targets

Speaking on the red carpet at the Scary Movie 6 premiere, Wayans made his intentions clear.

“Wait for Scary Movie 7, and we will get, we’ll come back and, oh, we’re gonna get us some Backrooms, and we’re gonna get us some Obsession. Thank you, guys. Keep making the movies,” he said.

It reads less like a tease and more like a promise. The comment signals that as long as horror keeps delivering cultural phenomena, the Wayans brothers plan to keep showing up to roast them.

The sixth installment reunites the original core four, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall, more than 25 years after the first film. The script comes from Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans alongside Rick Alvarez, with Michael Tiddes directing. The film has already positioned itself as a major comeback for R-rated comedy, a genre that has struggled to produce blockbuster hits since the pandemic.

If Scary Movie 6 performs the way early tracking suggests, a seventh entry is a very real possibility. And if Backrooms and Obsession stay in the cultural conversation long enough, fans already know exactly what that movie will look like.

Scary Movie 6 opens in theaters June 5, 2026.
