‘s night out at a Premiership rugby match took an awkward turn last week when sections of the crowd at Leicester’s Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium booed him as he appeared on the big screen. And if the reports are true, the humiliation left him devastated and in tears.

Prince Harry ‘Absolutely Crushed’ After Being Booed at Welford Road

Harry returned to the United Kingdom in late August with his wife, , and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While the family no longer carries out royal duties, with having made clear they are strictly private citizens, the 42-year-old stepped out on Friday in blue jeans and a dark coat.

He looked relaxed as he enjoyed a pint in the stands alongside Leicester Tigers chief executive Andrea Pinchen, until the cameras turned to him and a section of the crowd booed. Although Harry appeared unfazed at the time, a source told Rob Shutter that the humiliation later brought the father of two to tears.

“Harry didn’t hear the boos. He was enjoying the match and genuinely believed everyone was happy to see him,” the source told Shutter. “It wasn’t until afterward that the reality hit. He was absolutely crushed.”

The reaction comes amid a continued split between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal family, which began when the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2021. Harry has tried to mend relations, meeting King Charles alongside his family earlier this year, but the source said he did not expect hostility from the public.

“He knows his relationship with his family is damaged, but he never imagined British people would turn against him. Finding out they were booing was devastating… He can handle criticism from the palace. What he cannot handle is feeling rejected by his own country. He was fighting back tears. Britain is still home to him,” the source added.

Earlier last month, Markle was reportedly refused service by staff at a local pub, another sign of public anger toward the couple, who are set to carry out their first joint engagement in Nottingham over the weekend.

However, it is not the first time Harry has been booed, either. The couple drew jeers when their faces appeared on the big screen at the World Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles a year ago.

Meanwhile, Harry’s relationship with the Royal family doesn’t look to be improving anytime soon, with the couple even having threatened to return to the U.S. if their security is not approved.
