Landing back on UK soil was supposed to mark a turning point for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but King Charles made sure to send a message before the plane even touched down. Fleeing to Scotland on arrival, the monarch’s abrupt exit set the tone for a trip defined by distance and deliberate exclusion.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Find Themselves Shut Out
According to a source cited by Mandatory, Meghan was not expecting some grand royal ceremony or an elaborate public welcome upon returning to Britain. Instead, she reportedly hoped for something much simpler, a personal indication that King Charles was pleased to have his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren back in the country.
That hope was quickly dashed.
“Charles hot-footed it off to Scotland when they arrived which didn’t exactly send a warm welcome,” the source claimed, adding, “She wasn’t expecting a tea party or anything official, but it would’ve been nice to have some sort of signal from Charles that he was happy to have his son and grandchildren back in town”.
However, the cold shoulder from the Palace wasn’t the only bitter pill to swallow. Behind closed doors, Meghan was reportedly left grappling with a deeper frustration, his time directed at Harry himself.
“It’s what Meghan expected but it’s still a huge disappointment because Harry has been promising her it would be so much different,” the insider revealed. “He seemed to think there would be a real excitement on his father’s part about having them back, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case.”
While warm messages trickled in from outside the immediate royal fold, particularly from the Spencers, an underlying tension remained.
“Plenty of people have reached out to welcome them; they’ve had all sorts of nice messages, especially from the Spencers, but Meghan’s still got this underlying feeling that they are not really welcomed by anyone within the King’s circle,” the source noted.
The insider went even further, revealing that Meghan believes she and Harry may have to “fight for every single bit of face time with His Majesty and anyone else in his orbit”. Rather than the beginning of an easy family reunion, the reality on the ground feels far more like a carefully managed relationship in which every single meeting has to be negotiated.
