If you’ve been shipping Eddie and Susie since day one of The Gentlemen, you might want to brace yourself. Kaya Scodelario has dropped the most direct answer yet about the future of their dangerous, high-stakes partnership and it definitely isn’t the happily-ever-after fans have been begging for.
Kaya Scodelario Explains Why Eddie and Susie’s Romance Is on Hold
Speaking with Collider about The Gentlemen Season 2, Scodelario was asked point blank whether Susie and Eddie will end up together. Her response made clear that even she doesn’t know the endpoint.
“I think they don’t know yet,” Scodelario said. “And then that’s what’s been kind of beautiful about the journey with them is we’ve allowed that space to grow organically.”
Scodelario explained that the dynamic between Susie Glass and Eddie Horniman was never designed as a slow burn toward romance in the traditional sense. Instead, she framed it as chemistry that developed out of necessity, not intention.
“It was never kind of meant to be a thing, and I think the natural chemistry between the characters has grown. The situations that they’re in have led them to be closer whether they like it or not.”
That closeness, according to Scodelario, is complicated by the fact that Eddie and Susie are chasing very different goals within the criminal empire they now run together. She pointed to their diverging ambitions as the real obstacle, more than any lack of feeling.
“There is a love there, there is a respect there, there is a friendship there, and there is a very good working relationship there. And I think trying to shoehorn in any kind of romance at this point wouldn’t make sense for the journey that we’re on this season.”
Season 2, which premiered September 3 on Netflix, pushes both characters further apart geographically and professionally as their empire expands into Italy, even as personal tragedy reshapes Eddie’s arc.
With Season 3 already confirmed, Scodelario’s comments suggest Susie and Eddie’s will-they-won’t-they is staying unresolved for now, by design.
