Hideo Kojima just gave fans another reason to get excited about OD, and this time it involves Hunter Schafer back on set. The legendary game designer shared a new photo with the Euphoria star, and the timing has sparked fresh speculation about where the long-awaited horror project actually stands.
OD has been one of the most mysterious projects in gaming since it was first revealed. Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios announced their partnership for the project back in June 2022, and Kojima described it as an attempt to create “a very unique, immersive, and totally new style of game, or rather, a new form of media.” Since then, updates have been sparse, making any new sighting from the set feel significant.
Kojima’s Latest Photo Suggests Motion Capture Work Is Underway
The new image shows Kojima posing with Schafer on what appears to be a production set, with both also pictured separately near a screen displaying the OD logo. Given how Kojima typically builds his games, this kind of appearance usually points to one thing: motion capture and digital scanning sessions, the same process he’s used to create lifelike, photo-real characters in projects like Death Stranding.
This wouldn’t be Schafer’s first time working on the project either. She was cast in an undisclosed role in OD, officially announced with a teaser trailer at The Game Awards 2023, alongside Sophia Lillis and Udo Kier.
The renewed activity also lines up with other recent updates on the project. A second teaser for OD, subtitled “Knock,” arrived in 2025, showing Lillis’ character recoiling in terror after performing a ritual. However, Kojima later revealed that Udo Kier had passed away before he could complete his motion-capture work for the game, and development resumed this year.
Given Kojima’s track record with secrecy, an official OD update could land anywhere, though all signs point toward Kojima continuing to use major industry events to build hype. Some fans are hoping for a return appearance at The Game Awards, though a release isn’t expected until late 2027 at the earliest.
For now, this new photo is just another small piece of a puzzle Kojima has been building for years, and fans will be watching closely for whatever comes next.
