Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen returns for Season 2 with Eddie Horniman and the Glass family facing a much bigger and more dangerous power struggle. A year after Eddie partnered with Susie Glass to help run her father Bobby’s criminal empire, the reluctant aristocrat has become increasingly comfortable with his life as a ruthless operator.
That shift raises a major question throughout the season: Is Eddie still working under Bobby Glass, or is he quietly preparing to take control for himself? As Eddie expands the family business into international markets and Bobby continues making risky decisions from prison, their relationship begins to head toward a confrontation neither man can easily avoid.
Eddie Horniman Wants To Build An Empire Of His Own
Season 2 sees Eddie and Susie expanding their operation beyond the English countryside, with Italy becoming their next major target. Their ambitions put them in the path of the Italian mafia and Peruvian cartels, forcing Eddie to operate on a much larger scale than before.
Eddie is also using his aristocratic position to protect the criminal business. He begins pursuing a hereditary seat in the House of Lords so he can help block legislation that could decriminalize marijuana and threaten the operation.
The bigger problem comes from Bobby. Still running things from his luxury prison cell, he starts making increasingly reckless decisions that leave Eddie and Susie dealing with the consequences. Eddie is no longer content to simply clean up someone else’s mess.
Things become personal after Bella, Eddie’s Italian love interest, dies in a suspicious plane crash. Believing Bobby ordered the killing, Eddie secretly hires an Italian assassin to murder him in his sauna.
Susie discovers Eddie’s plan before the attack can happen and reveals the truth: Bobby had actually purchased Eddie’s £100 million debt from Stanley Johnston. Rather than wanting Eddie dead, Bobby had a huge financial reason to keep him alive.
Eddie races to stop the assassination and arrives just in time, with the two men ultimately fighting together against the hitman.
So, does Eddie cut Bobby out? Not quite. By the end of Season 2, though, Eddie is no longer simply Bobby Glass’s subordinate. Bobby and Stanley recognize that Eddie’s grief and ambition have pushed him into becoming a kingpin in his own right, leaving him standing much closer to Bobby’s level than ever before.
