Which Big Movies Are Coming Next After Dune and Avengers?

The question of which movies will follow Dune and The Avengers has been answered. Hollywood studios prepared an incredibly packed schedule of blockbusters for 2026 and 2027 with two big clashes among the biggest franchises. For instance, the third part of Dune Messiah and the Avengers: Doomsday are scheduled for December 18, 2026.

This clash of blockbusters raises questions about studios’ scheduling strategies; they don’t compete with each other by releasing movies simultaneously in cinemas. Moreover, the premiere of Messiah is already under discussion at CinemaCon. The movie secured a multi-week IMAX screen lock, limiting other films, such as Avengers, from screening in that premium format. Despite that, Disney is holding that date, and there are reports that the movie will be moved to December 11 instead.

2026 Holiday Clash and Major Releases

In April 2026, Lionsgate is expected to release Michael on April 24, a high-budget Michael Jackson biopic. In May, the Star Wars universe returns with a new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22), starring Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver.

In June, we can see the debut of Masters of the Universe (June 5, 2026), directed by Travis Knight and produced by Universal Studios with Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto. Steven Spielberg returns to alien movies with Disclosure Day (June 12). In addition, there is a continuation of the DC Extended Universe – Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26), starring Milly Alcock.

July includes the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a solo Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland (July 24). There are only two blockbusters left before closing 2026, and one of them is Sunrise on the Reaping, a Hunger Games prequel with the events taking place before Haymitch’s Games.

Why the 2026–2027 Slate is Important for the Franchise Universe?

Here, we can see that most movies are made as part of larger franchises; however, there is also a shift in the storylines. The Dune universe will be closed soon; meanwhile, Marvel will integrate X-Men characters into its storyline. Besides, Star Wars returns to the movie theater and continues the story based on the Mandalorian character. In this way, DC makes another move by developing Supergirl’s story in the movie universe.

In addition, the mentioned movies can also be classified as either nostalgic remakes or new stories in original franchises. Besides, this scheduling shows how important premium cinema formats, such as IMAX, have become. Thus, the movies will now compete not only for viewers’ attention but also for premium screening options.

Some Blockbuster Premieres for 2027 and What Is Going On There

As for future movies, next year should feature many exciting releases. Firstly, DC announced its Man of Tomorrow in July (July 9, 2027), a new episode of the Superman saga featuring Brainiac. Moreover, Disney will continue the Star Wars series with a new Star Wars movie featuring the original Shrek cast (Shrek 5). Marvel continues its movies with another installment of The Avengers: Secret Wars. However, its final release date depends on Doomsday, which is currently scheduled for May 2027.

Some other upcoming movies to be discussed include Pixar’s summer movie (Toy Story 5 on June 18) and the new Avatar movie with a different title from the original plan (Avatar: Fire and Ash, not The Way of Water). Some titles still aren’t confirmed. So, the release dates for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and The Batman Part II are now flexible.
