The mystery around this project has been building for years. It was first announced back in 2023 under the working title Flowervale Street, and details stayed locked down for so long that even the premise felt like a secret.
Now that trailers and 4DX previews have started rolling out, McGregor’s role as Greg has become one of the most talked-about parts of the marketing push, especially once the dinosaurs entered the picture.

Greg is the patriarch of the Platt family, married to Anne Hathaway‘s Denise, and father to two kids played by Maisy Stella and Christian Convery. Set against a 1980s suburban backdrop, Greg’s ordinary life is upended when a cosmic event tears Oak Street from its neighborhood and drops it in an unrecognizable place, crawling with prehistoric creatures.
McGregor described the tone of the film during a recent press event, saying, “This crazy, bonkers genre of just running for your lives from dinosaurs will just blow people’s minds. I would imagine a lot of spilled popcorn.” That mix of genuine chaos and self-aware fun seems to be exactly what director David Robert Mitchell is going for.
But Greg isn’t just a dad dodging dinosaurs. According to Hathaway, the family dynamic is layered with tension well before the cosmic event even hits. “The kids have secrets. Greg has a secret. Denise has a secret,” she explained. “And then this really huge, almost supernatural thing happens that pushes them together, and it forces secrets to come out.”
