The DC Universe’s new Supergirl is carrying a piece of Superman history with her, and the detail has quickly caught the attention of fans. As Milly Alcock prepares to make her debut as Kara Zor-El in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, she recently revealed that part of her costume has a direct connection to the character’s cinematic past.
Rather than creating an entirely new cape from scratch, the production incorporated material from one of the most iconic superhero costumes ever put on screen. The decision creates a tangible link between the new DC Universe and the legacy established decades ago by Christopher Reeve’s beloved portrayal of Superman.
A Direct Link To Christopher Reeve’s Superman
Speaking about the costume, Alcock revealed that her cape was created using material from Christopher Reeve’s original Superman costume.
“My cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape,” Alcock said. “I think they found there was like 16 meters of that material.”
The fabric comes from Reeve’s costume used in the original ‘Superman’ film series, which ran between 1978 and 1987. Reeve’s performance remains one of the most influential portrayals in comic book movie history, helping define the character for generations of fans.
The revelation offers an unusual glimpse into the production process behind ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’. Costume departments rarely discuss the origins of specific materials, making Alcock’s comments a notable piece of information for longtime DC followers.
The decision appears to be more than a simple tribute. By incorporating fabric from Reeve’s cape into Kara Zor-El’s costume, the filmmakers have created a direct physical connection between one of DC’s most celebrated screen heroes and the character set to help shape the future of James Gunn’s rebooted universe.
The choice also aligns with the source material. Based on Tom King’s acclaimed ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ comic series, the film places Kara at the center of a darker and more emotionally driven story than many previous interpretations of the character.
Alcock’s casting has already generated significant anticipation among fans eager to see the next chapter of the DC Universe. Details such as the cape’s connection to Reeve’s Superman only add another layer of significance to her debut.
‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026.
