Fans have been debating it since the first trailer dropped, and now Milly Alcock has her own answer to the question of who wins in a fight between Supergirl and Superman.
The debate isn’t exactly new. Kara Zor-El and Kal-El share the same Kryptonian biology, the same powers under Earth’s yellow sun, and a complicated family dynamic that sits right at the center of the new film. Director Craig Gillespie previously described the relationship as having “this almost older-sibling dynamic and that can be adversarial,” adding that Superman is gentle and patient while Kara is far less certain of herself. That tension is exactly what makes the question so interesting.
Milly Alcock Says Supergirl Is “Objectively” Stronger Than David Corenswet’s Superman
Speaking to Variety at the Supergirl world premiere in Brooklyn on June 22, Alcock didn’t hesitate when the topic came up. Her version of Kara is “objectively” stronger than David Corenswet’s Superman, she said, though there’s a catch. In a one-on-one fight, he’d just “let her win.”
It’s a playful answer, but it lines up with what the film appears to be building. Kara spent her formative years developing under Krypton’s heavier gravity before arriving on Earth, while Clark was sent as a baby and has spent his entire life adapting to his powers here.
That gives Superman the edge in experience and control, but the raw physical argument leans toward Supergirl. The film’s trailers have already teased a version of Kara who is more impulsive and far less restrained with her abilities than her cousin.
Alcock also revealed she trained for an hour every day for the role and learned five alien languages to prepare. Infinity Ward’s Corenswet, meanwhile, showed up to the Brooklyn premiere and promptly stepped between Alcock and a photographer who touched her without permission, a moment that went viral within hours and earned him praise from fans who said he was proving himself to be Superman both on and off screen.
Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26.
