Zendaya is not giving anything away, and that alone is enough to get fans talking. The actress teased a scene between her and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day that she says is too big to spoil, and the little she did share has only made the wait harder.
“If I talked about it, it would be a big spoiler,” Zendaya said in an interview with NOS Jeugdjournaal. “So, I think I’m just going to say there is a very special scene between us where a lot of crazy stuff happens, and it was a really fun day on set. We just kind of went for it.”
That kind of tease from someone who almost never slips up in interviews is significant. Zendaya and Holland have been doing press together for the Spider-Man films since 2017, and she knows exactly when to say something and when to stop.
What We Know About Peter and MJ in Brand New Day
The setup for their dynamic in this film is unlike anything the franchise has done before. Following the events of No Way Home, MJ has no memory of Peter Parker at all, and when Peter finds out, she has moved on entirely, it sets off the film’s central emotional conflict. For fans who have followed Peter and MJ across four films, that is a gut-punching starting point.
Zendaya described returning to MJ in adulthood as a unique experience, saying it was fun to imagine what her character’s life had been like since audiences last saw her, while also acknowledging that Peter is no longer part of those memories or the life MJ may have wanted. She even worked with the creative team on a “re-MJ-ifying pass” of certain scenes to make sure the character’s voice still felt right.
The real-life bond between the two actors has clearly shaped what ends up on screen. Holland recently described Zendaya as a “lifeline” on set, crediting their relationship for giving him the confidence to flag a scene they both felt wasn’t working during production. The two brought their concerns to director Destin Daniel Cretton, who pulled the crew for the day, rewrote the scene overnight, and reshot it the following morning. Holland said the result “sings in the movie.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day also stars Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo, and swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
